Get me bodied
Okay, so a man and a woman wake up naked in a strange, well-appointed house overlooking a calm body of water with no idea of who they are or how they got there. No, it’s not the set-up for a bad dirty joke; on the contrary, it’s the premise for some pretty intense, brain-tickling theater. Christine Lahti and Michael Cristofer keep Lee Blessing’s twisty mystery afloat as the confused couple who seem to have experienced some traumatic incident to account for their memory loss. A young woman (Laura Odeh) eventually enters with some intriguing explanations, but because she soon contradicts her first claim (this couple murdered their daughter?), we can’t take anything she says as hard fact. It’s without a doubt 90 of the most frustrating minutes you’ll likely spend in a theater, but this drama demands to be witnessed if only to be endlessly dissected over post-theater cocktails later.
A Body of Water, thru Nov. 16 @ 59E59 Theaters, 59 E 59th St, 212.279.4200.
